Great Shelford Village Charity Ltd, the corporate trustee of The Great Shelford Village Charity, seeks expressions of interest from local people wishing to assist with the work we do in the village.
What does The Great Shelford Village Charity do?
The charity exists to help people in need within the village and surrounding area:
- We own and manage 53 almshouse homes at More’s Meadow where we provide affordable accommodation for families, couples and individuals.
- We also own 6 acres of land comprising allotments, a community garden and meadow.
- Additionally, the Charity provides grants and makes donations in support of local organisations, good causes, and villagers in need.
What do our directors do?
Our eight directors are unpaid volunteers, who oversee everything the charity does, from setting strategy through to service delivery and financial management. While some directors provide professional expertise in areas such as finance or law, others bring managerial, pastoral and other life experiences.
We meet monthly to discuss our properties and hold a bi-monthly board meeting. Some directors take a lead role in specific projects. Typically, the commitment amounts to one or two days per month.
We have legal and regulatory responsibilities similar to those of charity trustees and we are all required to undergo a basic DBS check. For more information see:

What sort of people are we looking for?
We welcome applications from local people who are committed to village life, who have an interest in the well being of our community, its people and its green space.
